Application

Sulfatase from abalone entrails has been used in a study to determine that human p-selectin glycoprotein ligand-1 interacts with the skin-associated chemokine CCL27 via sulfated tyrosines at the PSGL-1 amino terminus. Sulfatase from abalone entrails has also been used in a study to investigate HPLC of sulfate and glutathione conjugates from hamster embryo fibroblasts.
Sulfatase from abalone entrails has been used to digest the conjugated forms into free forms for the analysis of tissue green tea polyphenols (GTPs). It has also been used for the detection of free, glucuronidated or total form of GTPs.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Sulfatases hydrolyze the sulfate esters of complex macromolecules, like glycosaminoglycans and sulfatides. It helps to modulate the sulfation states that determine the action of several physiological molecules.

Unit Definition

One unit will hydrolyze 1.0 μmole of p-nitrocatechol sulfate per hr at pH 5.0 at 37 °C (30 min assay).
