Gene Information

mouse ... Nos1(18125)
rat ... Nos1(24598)

Specificity

The antibody reacts with iNOS, eNOS and nNOS from rat and bovine, and with iNOS in induced RAW 264.7 mouse macrophages. In immunoblotting, the antibody detects a band at 130 kDa representing iNOS in samples first induced with IFN (interferon) and LPS (lipopolysaccharides). It also detects a band at 155 kDa in tissues expressing nNOS and a band at 140 kDa in tissues expressing eNOS. The antibody may be used to localize and detect the three isoforms of nitric oxide synthase (NOS): neuronal or brain (nNOS or bNOS), endothelial (eNOS) and inducible (iNOS).

Immunogen

bovine cerebellum NOS.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Neuronal nitric acid synthase (Nos1) in involved in the production of nitric oxide. Mutations in the gene encoding it increases the susceptibility to behavioral dysfunction after an exposure to alcohol in mice.

Physical form

Ascites fluid containing ≤0.1% sodium azide
