Application

PChemsPC or 1-palmitoyl-2-cholesterylhemisuccinoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine might be used to study its pharmacokinetics and biodistribution patterns in comparison with phospholipid-cholesterol liposomes. It might also be used as a component in the monolayer to study its characterization at the air/water interface.

Biochem/physiol Actions

PChemsPC or 1-palmitoyl-2-cholesterylhemisuccinoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine is a sterol-phospholipid hybrid. Cholesterol incorporation with phospholipids reduces the permeability of the lipid bilayer, organizes phospholipid chains and avoids the phospholipid phase transition. This improves the stability of the vesicles.

The two synthetic sterol-phospholipid hybrids DCholPC and PCholPC were investigated in monolayers at the air/water interface. Study was based on π-A isotherm analysis complemented with application of grazing incidence X-ray diffraction. It was found that both compounds are capable of

We synthesized a family of sterol-modified glycerophospholipids (SML) in which the sn-1 or sn-2 position is covalently attached to cholesterol and the alternative position contains an aliphatic chain. The SML were used to explore how anchoring cholesterol to a phospholipid

1,2-Di-stigma-steryl-hemi-succinoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DSHemsPC) is a new lipid in which two molecules of stigmasterol (an inexpensive plant sterol) are covalently linked via a succinic acid to glycerophosphocholine. Since amphotericin B (AmB) interacts with sterols, we postulated that DSHemsPC could be used in

Extreme makeover of cholesterol: Cholesterol exchange is a major reason for the instability of liposomes in blood. The formation of a covalent hybrid between cholesterol and glycerophosphocholine preserves the bilayer-stabilizing effect of free cholesterol but prevents its transfer from the
