Gene Information

General description
The gene for C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 10 (CXCL10), also known as interferon-γ-inducible protein-10 (IP-10), is mapped to human chromosome 4q21.1. IP-10 is secreted by monocytes, neutrophils, endothelial cells, keratinocytes, fibroblasts, mesenchymal cells, dendritic cells, astrocytes and hepatocytes. It is a polypeptide of 78 amino acids. Human IP-10 shows 67% amino acid homology to mouse CRG-2.
Biochem/physiol Actions
IP-10 (interferon-γ-inducible protein-10) protein is a proinflammatory chemokine which controls immune responses. It interacts with chemokine receptor 3 (CXCR3) and activates leukocytes including T cells, eosinophils, monocytes and natural killer cells. Mutations in IP-10 are associated with rheumatoid arthritis. In humans with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection or HCV/human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) co-infection, IP-10 is linked with obesity and insulin resistance.
IP-10, a chemoattractant for activated T lymphocytes, is a potent inhibitor of angiogenesis and displays thymus-dependent anti-tumor effects.
Physical form
Lyophilized from a 0.2 μm filtered solution in phosphate buffered saline with 5% trehalose containing 50 μg bovine serum albumin per 1 μg of cytokine.
Analysis Note
The biological activity is measured by its ability to chemoattract mouse BaF/3 cells transfected with hCXCR3.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is an important risk factor for the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Interferon gamma-induced protein 10 (IP-10), a proinflammatory chemokine, plays a crucial role in inflammatory diseases. This cross-sectional pilot study investigated whether circulating
