General description

This Certified Spiking Solution® is suitable for GC/MS and LC/MS applications from clinical and diagnostic testing and endocrinology to sports testing.

5α-Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is a steroid hormone and metabolite of the natural androgen, testosterone, formed by the action of NADPH-dependent enzyme 5α-reductase. It has been implicated in a broad range of diseases from male pattern baldness to benign prostatic hyperplasia and prostate cancer. As an anabolic steroid, DHT has also been used as a performance-enhancing drug to promote muscle growth.

Application

The Certified Reference Material (CRM) in solution can also be used as follows:
  • Simultaneous analysis of testosterone and 5α-dihydrotestosterone using a benchtop gas chromatograph-mass spectrophotometer (GC-MS) in human serum samples
  • Liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization-tandem mass spectrometric (LC/ESI-MS/MS) determination of testosterone and 5α-dihydrotestosterone following their proton affinitive derivatization using picolinic acid and its analogs
  • Determination of testosterone and 5α-dihydrotestosterone in plasma and testis samples of fathead minnow by a gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometric (GC-MS/MS) method
  • Multi-residue screening of epitestosterone, testosterone, 5α-dihydrotestosterone, dehydroepiandrosterone, androsterone, and etiocholanolone in urine samples by high-resolution full scan-electrospray ionization-liquid chromatography (HR-FS-ESI-LC) combined with quadrupole orbitrap mass spectrometer (Q/Orbitrap MS) following requirements of World Antidoping Agency (WADA)
  • Quantitative analysis of nine hydroxy-androgens and their conjugates by a stable isotope dilution liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization-tandem mass spectrometry (SID-LC-ESI-MS/MS) based method following their derivatization using picolinic acid

Features and Benefits

  • Fully characterized under ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO 17034 accreditation
  • Accompanied with a comprehensive Certificate of Analysis (CoA) with data on stability, homogeneity, accuracy of concentration, uncertainty, and traceability
  • Rigorously tested through real-time stability studies to ensure accuracy and shelf life
  • Gravimetrically prepared using qualified precision balances to ensure minimal uncertainty
  • Flame sealed under argon into ampoules for long-term shelf life
  • Offered in a convenient, DEA-exempt format to improve laboratory efficiency
