General description
Ceramide, a bioactive sphingolipid belongs to the sphingolipid family of cell lipids. This pore-forming member is insoluble in water. It is a hygroscopic and light sensitive lipid.
Application
C11 TopFluor™ Ceramide may be used:
- in the ceramide and B-cell lymphoma-extra-large (Bcl-xL) binding studies to study the effect on ceramide channel formation
- as a tracer in confocal microscopy to treat T84 cells in order to study its localization in sphingomyelinase (SMase)-induced F-actin structures
- to study its effect on the migration of pancreatic cancer stem cells (PCSC) using confocal microscopy
Biochem/physiol Actions
Ceramide is known to participate in apoptosis, mediated by mitochondria. Ceramide channels plays a key role in the onset of apoptosis in vivo.
