General description

Arachidonic acid (ARA) is a polyunsaturated ω-6 fatty acid. It contains 20-carbon fatty acid chain along with four methylene- interrupted cis double bonds. ARA is present abundantly in phospholipids of cell membranes. It can be acquired from dietary sources.

Application

Arachidonic acid-d11 has been used in sobetiramides (Sob-AM2) quantification by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) method.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Arachidonic acid (ARA) governs the cell membrane fluidity and ion channels activity. Accumulation of free ARA leads to cytotoxicity followed by cell death.
