Biochem/physiol Actions
Neuromedin N is a hexapeptide that is related to neurotensin. Its precursor, proneuromedin N, is expressed in the adrenals, brain, gut and also in several cancers. In myoelectric activity, it has been reported to act in a similar manner as neurotensin, at a lesser degree of potency. Neuromedin N has been shown to increase the chemotaxis capacity of mouse lymphocytes and to modulate function of the hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenocortical axis in rats. Neuromedin N has been proposed to exert its actions via increase in intracellular Ca2+ concentration, although this is uncertain.

Regulatory peptides, 35(3), 197-205 (1991-09-03)
The effects of neuromedin-N on migrating myoelectric complexes in the small intestine of rats were studied. As neuromedin-N and neurotensin are structurally related peptides a comparison with neurotensin was made. Myoelectric activity was recorded by means of three bipolar electrodes

The neuropeptides neurotensin and neuromedin N (from 10(-12) M to 10(-9) M) have been shown in this study to stimulate significantly in vitro several steps of the phagocytic process: adherence to substrate, chemotaxis, ingestion of inert particles (latex beads) and

The action of neurotensin and related peptides has not been yet studied on lymphocytes, although there are studies indicating the stimulative action of neurotensin, a peptide first isolated from bovine hypothalamus, on different functions of phagocytic immune cells. The present
