General description

Sodium iodate (NaIO3) is colorless sodium salt having rhombic crystals. It exhibits oxidizing properties. In nature, it is found in Chile saltpeter.

Application

Sodium iodate may be employed as a starting reagent in the preparation of iodine and its derivatives. It may be employed as a catalyst in the synthesis of bis-indol.
