General description

m-Hydroxybenzoylecgonine is a urinary metabolite of cocaine and a biomarker for determination of cocaine use. This Certified Spiking Solution® is applicable to use in urine drug testing, clinical toxicology, or forensic analysis by LC-MS/MS or GC/MS.

Application

  • m-Hydroxybenzoylecgonine as a forensic toxicology standard: A study optimized and validated a method for analyzing cocaine and several metabolites including m-Hydroxybenzoylecgonine in human urine via gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, emphasizing its utility in forensic and toxicological applications (Fernández et al., 2019).

  • m-Hydroxybenzoylecgonine for stability studies in toxicology: Research assessed the stability of cocaine metabolites such as m-Hydroxybenzoylecgonine in meconium, contributing to better forensic practices by determining optimal storage conditions (Wu et al., 2017).

  • Accelerated solvent extraction featuring m-Hydroxybenzoylecgonine: A protocol was developed for the extraction of cocaine and its biomarkers from meconium, utilizing m-Hydroxybenzoylecgonine to monitor drug exposure, enhancing the accuracy of drug testing in neonatal care (Mantovani et al., 2014).

A high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)-mass spectrometry (MS) assay, already validated for opiates and cocaine in meconium, has been re-applied for determination of m- and p-hydroxybenzoylecgonine, using nalorphine as the internal standard. Methodology included an initial extraction from the matrix by

Recently, meta-hydroxybenzoylecgonine (m-OH BE) was identified by gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy during quantitative analysis for cocaine. Identification of m-OH BE in addition to the routinely identified benzoylecgonine by gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy confirmatory assays may increase detection of cocaine-exposed infants and decrease

Meconium has been reported to be a more suitable specimen than maternal or neonatal urine for detecting fetal exposure to cocaine. In a study comparing various immunoassays with gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS), several unexplained discrepancies among the assays were noted.

m-Hydroxybenzoylecgonine (m-OH-BE) and d3-m- hydroxybenzoylecgonine (d3-m-OH-BE) have been synthesized, and a GC/MS procedure with d3-m-OH-BE as internal standard has been developed. Among 24 human urine specimens that were positive for BE, all of them have shown detectable levels of m-OH-BE

Positive benzoylecgonine (BZE) urinalysis results are sometimes challenged in legal and administrative proceedings on the grounds that the presence of BZE is due to the addition of cocaine to the urine sample with subsequent in vitro hydrolysis to BZE. Consequently
