General description

Spermidine trihydrochloride is an aliphatic polyamine. Its crystalline structure has been studied. It has been reported to preserve the nuclei and prevent proteolytic degradation of histones during the macronuclei isolation from Tetrahymena pyriformis.

Application

Spermidine trihydrochloride is used for the following applications:
  • DNA extraction and restriction endonuclease digestion
  • Nuclear transplantation
  • During the chemical analyses of the squid species Todaropsis eblanae
  • As one of the agents in intercalating drug.
  • Platelet aggregation
It may be used in the synthesis of palladium complexes like [sperH3]2[PdCl4]3, [PdCl2(sperH)]2[PdCl4], and [(PdCl2)3(sper)2] by reacting with K2PdCl4 and PdCl2.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Inhibits neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS). Binds and precipitates DNA; may be used for purification of DNA binding proteins. Stimulates T4 polynucleotide kinase activity.

Caution

Solutions should be sterile-filtered, not autoclaved, if sterile solution is necessary. Spermidine deaminates with time; solutions should be stored frozen. Prepare new solutions frequently.

Other Notes

Buffer component for chromosome isolation in bivariate flow cytogenetic analysis and sorting.
