General description

Methanol, a primary aliphatic alcohol, is an organic solvent that finds numerous uses in industrial applications. It is commonly used as an analytical standard, an extractant medium and as a mobile phase additive in various chromatographic separations.

Application

Methanol may be used:
  • As a stripping solvent to desorb pesticides after their extraction using hollow fiber liquid phase microextraction (HF-LPME), prior to the determination of the analytes in alcoholic beverages by ultra-high pressure liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS).
  • In the preparation of a mobile phase for the determination of phenolic acids in beverages by UPLC–MS/MS.
  • As an extraction solvent for the quantification of bisphenol-type endocrine disrupting compounds in food-contact recycled-paper materials by UPLC coupled to high resolution MS.
