General description

Sitosterol-d7 is a deuterated sterol. Sitosterol is distributed widely in plants. It regulates the embryonic phase in plants. β-sitosterol biosynthesis occurs via mevalonate and deoxyxylulose pathways.

Application

Sitosterol-d7 has been used as a deuterated standard in liquid chromatography multiple reaction monitoring (LC-MRM) analysis for the quantification of pollen sterols.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Sitosterol possesses hypocholesterolemic activity. In addition, it also exhibits anticancer activity in colon carcinoma cells (HT-29). D7-sitosterol is used in spiking ATP binding cassette half-transporter knockout mice to understand sitosterol clearance.
