General description

Acetylcholine Chloride, the chloride salt of acetylcholine, is a synthetic amino alcohol with cholinergic properties, making it a vital component in biochemical and neurotransmission studies. It replicates the effects of the endogenous acetylcholine compound, which plays a significant role in the immune system, inflammation, and allergy research. Acetylcholine chloride acts as a cholinergic neurotransmitter, binding to nicotinic and muscarinic acetylcholine receptors, facilitating the opening of calcium channels.Furthermore, Acetylcholine chloride (ACh chloride) functions as a potent cholinergic agonist, influencing the activity of dopaminergic (DAergic) neurons by stimulating nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs). This feature is particularly relevant in studies related to the immune system and inflammation. Additionally, it demonstrates the capacity to inhibit the aggregation of p53 mutant peptide in vitro, which contributes to the exploration of biochemical and allergy research.

Application

Acetylcholine chloride has been used:
  • as an agent to trigger sudomotor axon reflex response during autonomic test
  • to induce contraction amplitude of pyloric circular smooth muscle strip (PCSMS) in rats
  • as a substrate for acetylcholinesterase
  • to stimulate after discharge in Aplysia bag cell neurons

Biochem/physiol Actions

Acetylcholine chloride, injected at 20 mg/kg body weight, reduces mortality and plasma proinflammatory cytokines in mice with experimentally-induced sepsis . The cholinergic anti-inflammatory mechanism is probably mediated by interaction of acetylcholine with α7n cholinoreceptor on monocytes, macrophages, and neutrophils, which decreases the levels of proinflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6.
