General description

Bacteriochlorophylls are photosynthetic pigments, that are present in most of the bacteria.

Application

Bacteriochlorophyll from Rhodopseudomonas sphaeroides has been used as a standard to calibrate the high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).

Biochem/physiol Actions

Bacteriochlorophyll/BchF or 3-vinyl-bacteriochlorophyll hydratase is an enzyme present in bacteria, which helps in producing bacteriochlorophyll a. Bacteriochlorophyll a is formed from chlorophyllide a.
