General description

Dimethylglyoxime(DMG) is a complexing ligand. Dimethylglyoxime forms a number of mixed ligand complexes with N-acetylglycine and various metals such as VO(IV), Ni(II), Zn(II), Pd(II), Cd(II) and Pb(II).

Application

Dimethylglyoxime (DMG) may be used as complexing agent for the quantification of metallic imprurities [cobalt(II) and nickel(II)] in brine (5.5mol/l aqueous solution of sodium chloride) by adsorptive stripping voltammetry. It may be used in the preparation of nickel dimethylglyoxime, a dye complex used for the fabrication of dye-sensitized solar cells.
Dimethylglyoxime may be used as a chelating agent for determining nickel ion in complexes by gravimetric, titrimetric or colorimetric analysis.
