Phosphoribosylpyrophosphate synthetase 1 (PRPS1) encodes PRS-I enzyme. It is expressed in various tissues like prenatal and postnatal inner ear organs: cochlea, vestibular organs and utricle. This gene is mapped to human chromosome Xq22.

PRPS1 (phosphoribosyl pyrophosphate synthetase 1) catalyzes the first step of nucleotide synthesis. It controls several activities by supplying central building blocks and cofactors for cell homeostasis.
