Descripción general

The gene BDH2 (3-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase type 2) is mapped to human chromosome 4q24. It belongs to the short-chain dehydrogenase/reductase family (DHRS6). The protein has an iron responsive element and is a cytosolic protein.

Acciones bioquímicas o fisiológicas

BDH2 (3-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase type 2) participates in the synthesis of 2,5DHBA (2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid). It is important for maintaining the cellular iron homeostasis. BDH2 also participates in the utilization of cytosolic ketone bodies, thereby assisting in their entry to the mitochondria and tricarboxylic acid cycle.
