Descripción general

Acetyl-GAPDH (Lys160), also known as Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH(lys160), or Peptidyl-cysteine S-nitrosylase GAPDH, and encoded by the gene GAPDH/GAPD, is an interesting multifunctional metabolic enzyme that plays a critical role in glycolysis but also many other important nuclear and cell functions such as transcription, RNA transport, DNA replication and even apoptosis and cell death. In glycolysis, GAPDH is a key enzyme that catalyzes the first step in the pathway by converting G3P into 3-phospho-D glyceroyl phosphate. An example of GAPDH’s regulation of gene transcription as a component of a GAIT complex, which selectively inhibits the activation of various gamma interferon induced inflammation responses. The protein-protein interactions of GAPDH are at least partially controlled by acetylation. For instance, transport of GAPDH into the nucleus is dependent upon acetylation at lysines 117, 227, and 251, and acetylation at lysine 183 governs co-factor interactions. Acetylation of GAPDH at lysine 160 ultimately is involved in p53 mediated cell death.
