Gene Information

human ... CD1A(909)

General description

CD1a molecule is a lipid-presenting protein, which is highly expressed on Langerhans cells. It belongs to the CD1 protein family and is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 1.
The antibody HI149 reacts with CD1a (T6), a 49 KDa polypeptide associated with beta2-microglobulin expressed on cortical thymocytes (strongly), Langerhans cells, dendritic cells and some T cell leukemias and lymphomas. The antibody does not react with peripheral blood T and B lymphocytes, monocytes, granulocytes, platelets and erythrocytes.

Immunogen

Human thymocytes

Application

The reagent is designed for Flow Cytometry analysis of human blood cells using 20 μL reagent / 100 μL of whole blood or 1e6 cells in a suspension. The content of a vial (2 mL) is sufficient for 100 tests.

Biochem/physiol Actions

CD1a acts as a potential target for treatment against inflammatory skin diseases. The encoded protein functions as a phenotypic marker of human epidermal Langerhans cells (LC). CD1a mediates the presentation of lipids to induce T cell activation resulting in the production of interleukin-22 (IL-22), IL-13 and interferon (IFN)γ.

We recently demonstrated that three antigen-presenting cell (APC) subsets exist in the healthy human dermis, CD14(+) and CD1a(+) dermal APCs and migratory dermal Langerhans cells. Here, we extend these findings by defining CD208 as an exclusive marker of migratory dermal
