Gene Information

human ... HAVCR1(26762)

General description

Hepatitis A virus cellular receptor 1 (HAVCR1) or T-cell immunoglobulin and mucin protein (TIM-1) is a type 1 transmembrane glycoprotein. The protein is found in the apical membrane of cells. It is expressed in the kidney, testis and activated CD4+ T-cells. It possesses a six-cysteine immunoglobulin-like domain, a T/SP rich domain and two N-glycosylation sites. The TIM-1 gene is localized on human chromosome 5q33.2.

Immunogen

TIM-1 antibody was raised against a 16 amino acid peptide from near the amino terminus of human TIM-1.

Application

Anti-TIM-1 antibody produced in rabbit has been used in immunofluorescence.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Hepatitis A virus cellular receptor 1 (HAVCR1) regulates susceptibility to human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV-1) infection. It is upregulated in injured kidneys. HAVCR1 inhibits the activation of the Ga12 G-protein by blocking its association to GTP. Polymorphisms in the protein have been associated with immune dysfunction.
