General description

Acrylamide has been classified as probably carcinogenic in humans. It is formed in fried and oven-cooked foods due to Maillard reaction between amino acids and reducing sugars.

Application

Acrylamide solution is suitable for use in electrophoresis. It may be used in the preparation of gel buffer for the determination of molecular weight of polypeptide chains by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. It may be used in the electrochemical polymerization of pyrrole. It may be used to prepare the pH 7.6 gels, required for the determination of molecular weights of histone by sodium dodecyl sulfate gel electrophoresis.

Preparation Note

Prepared from electrophoresis grade acrylamide in ultra-pure water.
