General description
Glycerol alters the hygroscopic property of gelatin and its permeability to water vapour. Glycerol Gelatin or glycerine jelly medium is an aqueous slide mounting media, used for mounting samples in microscopy and histology.
Application
Glycerol Gelatin has been used for mounting endometrial tissue and pancreatic sections for microscopic examination. It has also been used for the immobilization and mounting of helminth eggs for on chip image analysis.
Components
Prepared with gelatin, glycerol and phenol. Very similar in composition to Kaiser′s glycerol jelly.
Preparation Note
Product must be warmed to 55-60 °C before use. At ~37 °C the product returns to semi-solid state.
