General description

Lyso-platelet activating factor (lyso-PAF) is the alkyl homolog of lysophosphatidylcholine.

Application

Lyso PAF (from Heart PC) (1-alkyl-2-hydroxy-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine) has been used to study its inhibitory actions on alkyl-PAF-induced death in Swiss albino mice. It may be used as an acyl acceptor in the determination of lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) acyltransferase (LPAAT) activity.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Lyso-platelet activating factor (lyso-PAF) can stimulate inflammation in a murine model of pleurisy. It acts as a stable metabolite and a precursor of PAF. The turnover of lyso-PAF to PAF is expected to induce continued inflammation in target organs or tissues.

Lysophosphatidic acid (1-acyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphate (LPA)) is a phospholipid with diverse biological activities. The mediator serves as an intermediate in membrane phospholipid metabolism but is also produced in acute settings by activated platelets. LPA is converted to phosphatidic acid, itself a lipid
