Gene Information
human ... IGFBP2(3485)
General description
The gene IGFBP-2 (insulin-like growth factor binding protein-2) is mapped to human chromosome 2q35.
Biochem/physiol Actions
During development, insulin-like growth factor binding protein-2 is expressed in a number of tissues with the highest expression level found in the central nervous system. IGFBP-2 exhibits a 2-10 fold higher affinity for IGF II than for IGF I. Mouse and human IGFBP-2 share approximately 82% homology.
IGFBP-2 (insulin-like growth factor binding protein-2) regulates the function of IGF ligands. IGFBP2 is associated with skeletal muscle cell proliferation and differentiation. It also plays an important role in the differentiation of corneal fibroblast.
Physical form
Lyophilized from a 0.2 μm filtered solution of 30% (v/v) acetonitrile with 0.1% (v/v) TFA
Analysis Note
The biological activity is measured by its ability to inhibit recombinant human lGF-II on MCF-7 cells.

Previously, we reported that keratocyte-conditioned medium (KCM) facilitates the differentiation of human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) into corneal keratocyte-like cells. This study is designed to investigate the roles of insulin-like growth factor binding protein 2 (IGFBP2) for the regulation of

The insulin-like growth factor (IGF) signaling pathway is thought to play a major role in the etiology of breast cancer. Although incidence rates of breast cancer overall are lower in African Americans than in Caucasians, African-American women have a higher

Insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) and IGF binding proteins (IGFBPs) play an important role in cell growth and differentiation. Clinical and epidemiological studies have indicated that measuring IGFs and IGFBPs in blood has potential implications in assessing growth-related abnormalities and risks

The IGFBPs are a family of homologous proteins that have co-evolved with the IGFs and that confer upon the IGF regulatory system both functional and tissue specificity. IGFBPs are not merely carrier proteins for IGFs, but hold a central position
