General description
Perfringens S.F.P. Selective Supplement is used as an antibiotic supplement used in culture media to inhibit the growth of unwanted organisms while allowing the growth of the desired microorganisms. This antibiotic supplement is recommended for the selective isolation and enumeration of Clostridium perfringens. The supplement consists of a combination of kanamycin sulfate, an aminoglycoside antibiotic derived from Streptomyces kanamyceticus, and polymyxin B, an antibiotic effective against resistant gram-negative bacteria, derived from Bacillus polymyxa. Polymyxin B exhibits bactericidal action against most gram-negative bacilli, excluding the Proteus group, thereby selectively allowing the growth of Clostridium perfringens.
Application
Perfringens S.F.P. Selective Supplement is recommended for the selective isolation and enumeration of Clostridium perfringens from various food and clinical samples.
