General description

Chloride is found in the earth´s crust and can therefore also be found in all natural waters at some concentration. This basic parameter of water analysis can be checked using the MQuant® Chloride test (formally MColortest®).

Method
Chloride ions react with mercury(II) thiocyanate to form slightly dissociated mercury(II) chloride. The thiocyanate released in the process in turn reacts with iron(III) ions to form red iron(III) thiocyanate. The chloride concentration is measured semiquantitatively by visual comparison of the color of the measurement solution with the color fields of a color disk. The test evaluates the color reaction based on the transmitted light method. So even turbid and colored water samples can be analyzed without further preparation.
The color disk is made of very durable, lightfast plastic, thus suitable for industrial areas and wet environments. Using the refill pack 1.18322 containing all the reagents, the original test kit can be used for a very long time, making it a particularly economical and ecological system.

This test can be used in
  • Groundwater, surface water, and seawater (after dilution)
  • Drinking water and mineral water
  • Waters from aquaculture
  • Boiler and boiler feed water, cooling water
  • Industrial water
  • Wastewater and percolating water
  • Process water
  • Swimming-pool water
  • Food after appropriate sample pretreatment
  • Soils after appropriate sample pretreatment
Method: colorimetric with color-disk comparator 3 - 6 - 10 - 18 - 30 - 60 - 100 - 180 - 300 mg/l Cl MQuant®
