Allgemeine Beschreibung

Charged multivesicular body protein 1b (UniProt: Q7LBR1; CHMP1.5, Chromatin-modifying protein 1b, CHMP1b, Vacuolar protein sorting-associated protein 46-2, Vps46-2, hVps46-2) is encoded by the CHMP1B (also known as C18orf2) gene (Gene ID: 57132) in human. CHMP1b is a member of the chromatin-modifying protein/charged multivesicular body protein (CHMP) family. It is widely expressed and is found in pancreas, kidney, skeletal muscle, liver, lung, placenta and the brain tissue. CHMP1b is a peripherally associated component of the endosomal sorting system that is required for transport complex III (ESCRT-III), which is involved in multi-vesicular bodies (MVBs) formation and sorting of endosomal cargo proteins into MVBs. CHMP1b is localized in cytosol, endosome, and in peripheral membrane protein. CHMP1b binds specifically to the AAA ATPase spastin and thereby recruits this microtubule severing protein to the midbody. CHMP1b and spastin are shown to colocalize at midbodies in dividing HeLa cells, and the knockdown of CHMP1b reduces the amount of spastin at midbodies.
