Allgemeine Beschreibung

A certified Snap-N-Spike® solution suitable for use as starting material in calibrators and controls for GC/MS or LC/MS methods in clinical toxicology, forensic analysis, or urine drug testing. Cocaethylene is the ethyl ester of benzoylecgonine. This benzoylecgonine analog is formed during cocaine metabolism when ethanol is present.

Anwendung

  • Innovative forensic detection methods: Development of a new analytical method using magnetic nanoparticles for the detection of cocaine, its antidepressants, and metabolites in postmortem blood highlights advances in forensic toxicology. This method, including the analysis of cocaethylene, improves the accuracy and efficiency of drug testing in forensic investigations (de Souza Schwarz et al., 2024).

  • Quantitative wastewater analysis for public health: This research involves quantitative analysis of wastewater to monitor drugs of abuse, including cocaine and its potent metabolite cocaethylene. It serves as an essential method for understanding public health trends and the effectiveness of drug use interventions within communities (Frankenfeld et al., 2023).

Ethanol decreases the clearance of cocaine by inhibiting the hydrolysis of cocaine to benzoylecgonine and ecgonine methyl ester by carboxylesterases, and there is a large body of literature describing this interaction as it relates to the abuse of cocaine. In

Ethanol alters the hepatic biotransformation of cocaine, resulting in transesterification to a novel active metabolite, cocaethylene. Because of first pass metabolism, oral drug administration might be expected to produce relatively larger concentrations of cocaethylene than would intravenous or smoked administration.
