General description

Tenax porous polymers, based on 2,6-diphenyl-p-phenylene oxide, is widely used as an adsorbent in both air collection and purge trap applications. Its unique structure provides alternate and desirable adsorption/desorption characteristics compared to other porous polymers.

Application

  • Optimization of VOC Sampling: Research on Tenax® porous polymer adsorbents has demonstrated their efficacy in sampling very volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in both dry and humid air, crucial for environmental testing. This study outlines the method for determining recovery rates using thermal desorption gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, highlighting Tenax®′s role in achieving high-precision analyses at sub-ppb levels (Richter et al., 2020).

  • Enhanced Gas Chromatography Performance: A comparative analysis of Tenax® and another common adsorbent material for thermal desorption gas chromatography - mass spectrometry of biogenic volatile organic compounds underscores Tenax®′s superior performance. The study emphasizes its high surface area and chemical stability, making it ideal for complex sample matrices in pharmaceutical and environmental applications (Marcillo et al., 2017).
