  • Low-protein diet supplemented with 1% L-glutamine improves growth performance, serum biochemistry, redox status, plasma amino acids, and alters fecal microbiota in weaned piglets.: This study demonstrates how L-glutamine supplementation in a low-protein diet can significantly enhance growth metrics and overall health in weaned piglets (Li et al., 2024).

  • Functionalization of β-cyclodextrin metal-organic frameworks with gelatin and glutamine for drug delivery of curcumin to cancerous cells.: This article covers the development of a novel drug delivery system using glutamine-modified frameworks for targeted cancer therapy (Sadeh et al., 2024).

Biochem/physiol Actions

L-Glutamine is an essential amino acid that is a crucial component of culture media that serves as a major energy source for cells in culture. L-Glutamine is very stable as a dry powder and as a frozen solution. In liquid media or stock solutions, however, L-glutamine degrades relatively rapidly. Optimal cell performance usually requires supplementation of the media with L-glutamine prior to use.
