General description
Maleimide PEG4 Propionic Acid, MW 416.4 (Mal-PEG4-PA) is a heterobifunctional monodisperse poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) crosslinking agent or spacer. The maleimide functional group reacts with sulfhydryl groups via Michael addition reaction. The propionic acid functional group reacts with free amines to form amide bonds.
The Peg product has a low melting point. The physical appearance of the product may change with the envrionmental temperature. The change in physical appearance will not affect the use of the product.
Application
- Improves water solubility
- Prolongs the half-life and reduces drug immunogenicity and toxicity in drug delivery applications
- PEGylation and conjugation of proteins, peptides, and antibodies
- PEG-modified functional coatings of nanoparticles or microparticles
Features and Benefits
- PEG crosslinker that joins sulfhydryl groups to free amines through a monodisperse PEG of specific molecular weight and number of repeat units
- Maleimide (mal) reacts with sulfhydryl groups, thiol, and mercapto via Michael addition reaction
- Propionic acid (PA) reacts with free amines using EDC or other carbodiimides to form amide bonds
- Monodisperse/discrete PEGs lack the polydispersity of traditional PEG polymers
- Enables the conjugation of two molecules in aqueous solution
- Excellent water solubility, fast kinetics, and stability in aqueous buffers
- Biocompatible
