Ricerca sul cancro
Data la complessità della patologia, la ricerca sul cancro rappresenta un campo multidisciplinare che abbraccia la ricerca di base, quella traslazionale e quella clinica. I progressi dipendono dalla maggior comprensione dell’ambiente della cellula tumorale e dell’eterogeneità biologica, eziologica, clinica e genetica del cancro. La conoscenza delle cause e dei meccanismi coinvolti nello sviluppo e nella progressione del cancro ha prodotto nuovi metodi per la prevenzione, la diagnosi e il trattamento. Il progresso nei metodi diagnostici ha incrementato il tasso di diagnosi precoci e ha contribuito a ridurre la mortalità in diversi tipi di cancro. Resta, tuttavia, da riempire un vuoto significativo nei metodi di screening degli asintomatici e della popolazione.
