General description

Method: colorimetric with color card and sliding comparator 10-25-50-75-100-125-150 mg/l NO₃⁻ MQuant®
This MQuant® Nitrate test (formally MColortest®) is suitable for the colorimetric determination using the easy to use color card. The evaluation considers the untreated sample so even turbid and colored water samples can be analyzed without further preparation.Nitrate is naturally present in soil, water and food and must be closely monitored. The test is suitable for testing in
  • Groundwater, drinking water, and surface water (also humin-containing samples)
  • Waters from aquaculture
  • Swimming-pool water
  • Industrial water
  • Wastewater
  • Food and animal fodder after appropriate sample pretreatment
  • Soils and fertilizers after appropriate sample pretreatment
This test is not suited for seawater.

Method
Nitrate ions are reduced to nitrite ions that react in acidic solution with sulfanilic acid to form a diazonium salt. This reacts with a benzoic acid derivative to form an orange-yellow azo dye. The nitrate concentration is measured semiquantitatively by allocating the color to a value on a reference scale.
