General description

C15 Ceramide (d18:1/15:0) is a synthetic ceramide containing sphingosine with pentadecanoic acid. C15 Ceramide-d7 (d18:1-d7/15:0) is a deuterated derivative of C15 Ceramide (d18:1/15:0).

Application

C15 Ceramide-d7 (d18:1-d7/15:0) has been used as a standard to measure C32–C34 ceramides in zebrafish brain and human embryonic kidney cell line (HEK293) by thermo q-exactive plus quadrupole-orbitrap mass spectrometery. It has also been used to measure the concentration of sphingolipids in right submandibular glands of mice by ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC/MS/MS).

Biochem/physiol Actions

Ceramides serve as precursors for several sphingolipids. Ceramides play a significant role in cell differentiation, proliferation, and apoptosis. In addition, they also acts as secondary transmitters in cell signaling.

This study reports a single-step analysis of the molecular species of endogenous ceramides and of the ceramide moiety of sphingomyelins in biological samples, using gas liquid chromatography (GLC). Silylated sphingomyelins were quantitatively converted to monosilylated ceramide upon injection into GLC
