Nitinol-core (NIT) SPME fibers were specifically engineered to be more reproducible and more robust than traditional SPME fibers that contain a fused silica (FS) core. The NIT fibers offer > 30% improvement in lot to lot and fiber to fiber reproducibility when compared to the FS versions, but offer equivalent selectivity for easy transfer of methods from FS to the more robust, reproducible NIT version.

Various plastics used as barriers to the production of off-flavors in light exposed milk were examined using HS-SPME with a new Carboxen®/PDMS coated Nitinol fiber followed by GC-MS analysis allowing detection of low MW analytes at levels <1 ng/mL.

SPME fibers with Carboxen®/Polydimethylsiloxane (CAR/PDMS) and Polydimethylsiloxane/ Divinylbenzene (PDMS/DVB) coatings are now available on a nitinol core (NIT) in a SS assembly for improved fiber performance.
