The Human Protein Atlas project can be subdivided into three efforts: Human Tissue Atlas, Cancer Atlas, and Human Cell Atlas. Biochem./physiol. Wirkung

NLGN1 (Neuroligin 1) is a synaptic cell-surface molecule, associated with synaptic activity. It is synthesized by endothelial and vascular smooth muscle cells throughout the vasculature. It facilitates the synapse formation in vitro, for controlling the differentiation of nascent synapses into fully mature nerve terminals. NLGN1 is expressed in the dendrites (postsynaptic) i.e. outside the central nervous system. It is also involved in the insulin secretion. Studies have been reported that its interaction with other neuronal cell surface proteins may play a role in the formation of the sub-membrane insulin secretory apparatus.
