Description générale

Oxidase Reagent, according to Gordon-McLeod, is a commonly used laboratory reagent in microbiology to detect bacteria that produce cytochrome c oxidase. The reagent is designed to identify this enzyme′s presence, which plays a critical role in the electron transport chain and indicates respiratory metabolism in bacteria. The Gordon-McLeod reagent contains N,N,N′,N′-tetramethyl-p-phenylenediamine dihydrochloride, as the active component in the reagent. When an organism produces cytochrome c oxidase, the reagent undergoes a color change reaction, turning from colorless to blue or purple. This color change is a positive result, indicating the presence of cytochrome c oxidase activity in the tested organism.

Application

Oxidase Reagent, according to Gordon-McLeod, is a commonly used laboratory technique in industrial microbiology to differentiate between bacterial strains based on their ability to produce cytochrome c oxidase. The Gaby-Hadley A reagent provides a simple and efficient way to identify oxidase-positive bacteria, such as Pseudomonas, Vibrio, and some Neisseria species, while producing negative results for organisms that lack cytochrome c oxidase activity. in the food, beverage, and pharmaceutical industries.
