Informations sur le gène

Description générale

Prickle-like protein 1(UniProt: Q3U5C7) is encoded by the Prickle1 (also known as Pk1) gene (Gene ID: 106042) in murine species. Prickle Prickle-like Protein 1 is involved in the planar cell polarity (PCP) pathway that controls convergent extension during gastrulation and neural tube closure. PCP pathway comprises of multiple integral membrane proteins ((Frizzled, Flamingo/Stan/Celsr and Vangl/ Strabismus) and membrane-associated proteins (Dishevelled, Inversin, and Prickle). Prickle-like protein 1 is synthesized with a propeptide (aa 830-832) that is removed in mature protein. Prickle1 is expressed in distinct cell populations of the central nervous system and is a contributor to neuronal morphogenesis. Both Pk1 and Pk2 genes share three LIM (Lin 11, Isl-1 and Mec-3) and one PET domain (Prickle, Espinas and Testin) at the N-terminus of the protein and a CAAX prenylation motif at the C-terminus. Pk1 is shown to be expressed in the cortical subplate and is considered as an important site for early neuronal maturation. In the retinal tissue Pk1 expression is specific to neurons and is highly enriched in Starburst amarcine cells. Loss of Pk1 gene has been linked to early embryonic lethality.
