Cyazofamid is a foliar and soil fungicide that belongs to the novel chemical class of cyanoimidazole compounds. It is used against various plasmodiophoromycetes and oomycete diseases on fruits and vegetables. It targets the complex III of the enzyme cytochrome bc1 complex in mitochondria and prevents the electron transfer at the Qi (ubiquinone reducing site) center, thereby inhibiting energy supply and respiration.
Cyazofamid is allowed for its use in the European Union as per the Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/843 of 26th May 2021, renewing its approval as an active substance in plant protection products according to Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council. Maximum residue levels of cyazofamid allowed for its presence in products of plant and animal origin lie in the range of 0.01-20 mg/kg.
Cyazofamid has to be monitored in the Multiannual Control Program for Pesticides Residues (MACP), run within the EU and EFTA in/on products of plant origin.

Application

The certified reference material (CRM) is intended to be used as a calibrant for chromatography and other analytical techniques.
Cyazofamid CRM may also find below-given uses:

  • Quantitative assessment of tomato peels for the presence of acephate, chlorpyrifos, and cyazofamid gathered during different intervals of the pre-harvest season by paper spray ionization mass spectrometry (PSI-MS)
  • Multi-residue analysis of 260 pesticides in 74 green leafy vegetable samples with an optimized QuEChERS method for sample preparation and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) for detection
  • Simultaneous determination of 116 pesticides from 35 different chemical classes in honey samples by QuEChERS and ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS)
  • Development of a method for simultaneous quantification of 200 pesticide residues in lettuce and orange samples based on methanol as the extraction solvent, ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) for separation, and tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) for detection
