General description

NUMA1 (Nuclear mitotic apparatus protein 1) is a coiled-coil protein consisting of a globular head and tail domain, which is linked by a large coiled-coil region. Its tail domain is composed of microtubule, LGN binding sites, and a nuclear localization signal (NLS).

Immunogen

NUMA1 (AAH13023.1, 1 a.a. ~ 1193 a.a) full-length human protein.

Biochem/physiol Actions

NUMA1 (Nuclear mitotic apparatus protein 1) is involved in several chromosomal maintenance activities as an essential mitotic component including spindle positioning, proper organization and maintenance of the mitotic spindle structure. During proper positioning and elongation of mitotic spindle, NUMA1, positioned above two spindle poles, directly binds to the conserved proteins (LGN/Gαi1-3) and dynein to the cell cortex. NUMA1-LGN/Gαi1-3 binding finally enhances cortical levels of NuMA/dynein, which is highly essential for robust spindle elongation.
