Gene Information

human ... MMP28(79148)

General description

Matrix metalloproteinase-28 (MMP-28) is expressed in normal tissues like the epidermis of the skin, brain, lungs and intestine. It possesses an activation sequence and a pro-domain. The gene encoding it is localized on human chromosome 17q11.2 and has eight exons.

Specificity

By immunoblotting against the reduced protein, the antibody identifies bands at 62 kDa and 58 kDa, as well as breakdown products at 50 kDa, 48 kDa, and 46 kDa. At higher antibody concentrations, the antibody also detects a 70 kDa band in rat and mouse tissues.

Immunogen

synthetic peptide corresponding to the propeptide region of human matrix metalloproteinase-28.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Matrix metalloproteinase-28 (MMP-28) may have a role in modulating matrix composition. It is an endopeptidase which degrades casein and mediates epithelial to mesenchymal transition. MMP-28 aids in progression of tumors and is overexpressed in gastric carcinomas.

Physical form

Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline containing 50% glycerol and 0.05% sodium azide.
