Amino Acid Sequence

(γ-Glu-Cys-Gly) (γ-Glu-Cys-Gly) [Disulfide bridge: 2a-2b]

Application

L-Glutathione oxidized disodium salt has been used in 5,5′-dithiobis-(2-nitrobenzoic acid) (DTNB)/glutathione reductase enzyme recycling method to determine plasma or tissue glutathione levels. It has also been used in NADPH-dependent glutathione disulfide reduction assay.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Oxidized L-glutathione is frequently measured in vivo as an indicator of oxidative stress. Oxidized L-Glutathione may be converted to L-glutathione by various reducing systems.

We previously demonstrated that reducing cardiac aldehydic load by aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2), a mitochondrial enzyme responsible for metabolizing the major lipid peroxidation product, protects against acute ischemia/reperfusion injury and chronic heart failure. However, time-dependent changes in ALDH2 profile, aldehydic
