Cell Line Description

MKL-1 was established from a nodal metastasis in a 26-year-old Caucasian male patient. MKL-1 cells contain a Merkel cell polyomavirus integrated into the genome. MKL-1 cells cause tumour formation at 4-6 weeks at subcutaneous sites in athymic male nude mice (BALB/c nu/nu).

Culture Medium

RPMI 1640 + 2 mM Glutamine + 10% FBS

Subculture Routine

Seed at 3 x 105 cells/ml in 5% CO2; 37 °C Saturation density is approximately 106 cells/ml. Population doubling time is around 120 hours.
