Gene Information

human ... HOXC11(3227)

Immunogen

Synthetic peptide directed towards the middle region of human HOXC11

Biochem/physiol Actions

HOXC11 belongs to the homeobox family. The homeobox family is a highly conserved family of transcription factors that play an important role in morphogenesis in all multicellular organisms. HOXC11 is one of several homeobox HOXC proteins. HOXC11 binds to a promoter element of the lactase-phlorizin hydrolase. It may also play a role in early intestinal development. This gene belongs to the homeobox family of genes. The homeobox genes encode a highly conserved family of transcription factors that play an important role in morphogenesis in all multicellular organisms. Mammals possess four similar homeobox gene clusters, HOXA, HOXB, HOXC and HOXD, which are located on different chromosomes and consist of 9 to 11 genes arranged in tandem. This gene is one of several homeobox HOXC genes located in a cluster on chromosome 12. The product of this gene binds to a promoter element of the lactase-phlorizin hydrolase. It also may play a role in early intestinal development. An alternatively spliced variant encoding a shorter isoform has been described but its full-length nature has not been determined.

The lactase-phlorizin hydrolase (LPH) gene is expressed specifically in the enterocytes of the small intestine. LPH levels are high in newborn mammals, but decrease after weaning. We have previously suggested that the promoter element CE-LPH1, located at -40 to -54

Epigenetic regulation of gene expression is critical to phenotypic maintenance and transition of human breast cancer cells. HOX antisense intergenic RNA (HOTAIR) is a long intergenic non-coding RNA that epigenetically represses gene expression via recruitment of enhancer of zeste homolog

Mechanisms of acquired resistance to endocrine therapy in breast cancer, a major clinical challenge, are poorly understood. We have used a mass spectrometry-based screen to identify proteins that are associated with the endocrine-resistant phenotype. In this study, we report the
