Application

Activated charcoal (activated carbon) has been used:
  • As an adsorbent for p-cresol in the fermentation broth, during its synthesis from p-hydroxyphenylacetate catalyzed by p-hydroxyphenylacetate decarboxylase.
  • To form a charcoal filter in a Drierite cartridge for removing organic compounds from the air for the odor delivery system.
  • As an organic sorbent to study adsorption equilibrium of ammonia gas.
