Gene Information

human ... RPL26(6154)

General description

60S ribosomal protein L26 (UniProt: P61254) is encoded by the RPL26 gene (Gene ID: 6154) in human. 60S ribosomal protein L26 belongs to the ribosomal protein L24P family and is found in all eukaryotes. It is primarily localized in the cytoplasm, but to a lesser extent it is also found in the nucleoplasm and nucleolus. It associates with the large 60S subunit of the ribosome and contains a KOW motif, a conserved RNA-binding motif present in many ribosomal proteins. 60S ribosomal protein L26 is shown to be involved in translation. Knockdown of RPL26 results in a significant decrease in synthesis of 28S rRNA (associated with 60S subunit). Overexpression of RPL26 is shown to enhance the binding of p53 mRNA to the ribosomes and increase p53 translation, which subsequently leads to cell-cycle arrest at G1 phase and can enhance radiation-stimulated apoptosis. Mutations in RPL26 gene are reported to cause congenital non-regenerative hypoplastic anemia that is characterized by a moderate to severe macrocytic anemia, erythroblastopenia, and an increased risk of malignancy.

Specificity

This polyclonal antibody detects 60S ribosomal protein L26 in human.

Immunogen

GST-tagged recombinant fragment corresponding to the first 95 amino acids from human 60S ribosomal protein L26.

Application

Anti-60S Ribosomal Protein L26 Antibody, Cat. No. ABE1438, is a highly specific rabbit polyclonal antibody that targets 60S ribosomal protein L26 and has been tested in Immunohistochemistry (Paraffin), and Western Blotting.
Immunohistochemistry Analysis: A 1:50 dilution from a representative lot detected 60S Ribosomal Protein L26 in human cerebral cortex, human pancreas, and human colon tissues.
