General description

Ethylene glycol dimethyl ether, also known as dimethoxyethane, has gained significant attention in recent years due to its favorable characteristics, including a high energy density and cetane number. It possesses excellent solubility properties and is used as an environmentally friendly solvent and effective etherification agent in industries such as cosmetics, perfumes, and pharmaceuticals. Notably, it finds extensive application in batteries and electrolytes due to its desirable properties.

Application

Ethylene glycol dimethyl ether can be used as a:
  • Co-solvent in the synthesis of Tris(trimethylsilyl)phosphine (P(SiMe3)3).
  • Solvent in the tailored mono carborane electrolyte solution of Ca(CB11H12)2, which was utilized in the development of Ca metal batteries.
