General description

Phosphatidylcholines (PCs) are phospholipids, that are abundantly present in the tissues of the animal. 16:0-18:0 PC (PSPC/1-palmitoyl-2-stearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine) is a saturated lipid , which consists of two additional methylene units in the sn-2 acyl chain.

Application

16:0-18:0 PC (1-palmitoyl-2-stearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine) has been used in liposome preparation. It may be used as a phospholipid standard.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphatidylcholines (PCs) play a functional role in reducing the level of blood lipid and cholesterol.

Phosphatidylcholines are the major phospholipid component of most eukaryotic cell membranes. Phosphatidylcholines have been shown to actively participate in regulatory and metabolic processes. Dysfunctional metabolic processes have been linked to human disease and can result in altered phosphatidylcholine structural features
