General description
Increased transaminase activity alters the rate at which precursors of protein are interchanged with carbohydrate intermediates.
Application
Transaminase has been used in a study to assess the effect of ischemic preconditioning on pathophysiologic alterations of hemodynamic, biochemical and inflammatory parameters observed during intra-abdominal hypertension. Transaminase levels have also been used in a study to investigate the use of hydrogen-1 MR spectroscopy for measurement and diagnosis of hepatic steatosis.
Unit Definition
One unit will produce 1.0 μmole of oxaloacetate from L-aspartate during the transamination of 2-ketoglutarate per min at pH 7.0 at 25 °C in the presence of pyridoxal phosphate.
Physical form
Lyophilized powder containing potassium phosphate buffer salts
